COLLEGE ENTRANCE EXAMS
The majority of colleges and universities will accept BOTH exams. Students are recommended to begin taking these college entrance exams in January of their Junior Year to allow for ample instruction prior to the test, while balancing time to re-take tests multiple times to reach the desired score. Universities do not consider how many times a student took the exam as part of the admissions decision; they only look at the highest test score.
LCHS students participating in the Federal Free/Reduced Lunch Program are eligible to receive fee waivers for these exams. Fee Waivers can be picked up in the College & Career Center in the LCHS Library. |

The PSAT "Practice SAT" provides students with an opportunity to be exposed to their first timed, "standardized" college entrance exam as a Sophomore. This test provides students with valuable feedback regarding College Readiness and skills needed to improve prior to taking the "Real" SAT in the Spring of Junior Year. For Juniors, the October PSAT is the qualifying test for the National Merit Scholarship Corporation program. Additionally, it is the final "practice" before the actual SAT in the Spring semester. This test is an important part of the College and Career Continuum and should be taken in 10th AND 11th grade. Additionally, the PSAT can qualify sophomore students for the CFISD Summer Scholars program. The PSAT will be conducted DURING THE SCHOOL DAY for all 10th and 11th grade students who REGISTER ONLINE for the test. For registration information go to Bit.ly/LCHS_PSAT = link is case sensitive or click on the PSAT button to the left.

TSI Assessment
"Texas Success Initiative" Assessment was a new assessment introduced in August 2013. This assessment was designed as an additional option for College Bound students in Texas to prove College Readiness. This test is used to qualify students who do not meet testing requirements using the SAT or ACT for college coursework. If you are unsure whether you need to take this test, please speak to your counselor and/or university admission office. There are three subjects on the test: Reading, Math and Writing (incl. Essay) This test is administered at the college. The closest campus is Lone Star College Cy-Fair. See TSI link to their testing center for more information. |
